They have removable strainers for easy cleaning and can be mounted on horizontal or vertical surface. The strainer is designed to leave a minimum water level 10mm (3 8") in the bilge. The check valve stops water from returning into bilge. SS1212 and SS5212 do NOT require a separate bilge switch
